According to the NCDOT, the bridge to Corolla AKA the Mid-
Currituck Bridge project is currently on hold. The North Carolina Dept. of
Transportation needs time to review the project using a new Strategic Mobility
Formula. The project will then be ranked under the new funding formula. Due to
the new Strategic Transportation Investments bill that was passed, the state
bond that would have gapped the funding for the bridge was repealed.
Using the new formula, if the Mid-Currituck
Bridge Project is ranked favorably funding could be restored to the project.
NCDOT will have to reevaluate the project using the Stategic Mobility Formula by January 1, 2015. The project involves a 7 mile two-lane bridge that would
span across the Currituck Sound from the Currituck County mainland to NC 12 on
the Currituck Outer Banks. Travel time across the bridge would be 10-14 minutes and will
save an hour or more on a trip to Corolla. Prior to the new funding formula the
